Day 58 to Fall into Better Habits

Common Sense Disclaimer: When I speak of going outside alone, I don't mean to abandon your responsibilities - or your family! If you're a single Mom about to blow, maybe you can ask a relative or a friend or a trusted neighbor to watch your little ones while you take a moment to re-group. In fact, put a plan into place right now so you are prepared for those inevitable chaotic days.

When we think of the terms “release your negative emotions” or “blow off some steam,” we usually imagine a cartoon character’s head exploding from the pressure of the situation.

Since that’s not a healthy option to express our emotions, especially those intense ones, let’s think about it this way. Instead of releasing, let’s re-lease.

RE-LEASE. Take a new lease on life. A new outlook. A new perspective. See things in a totally new way.

Back in the day, a locomotive couldn’t run without heating up the fire and burning off the steam. So, let’s choose to see our emotions in the same way. They are here to help us grow and make progress. When we label them as good or bad they become troublesome. So let’s not label and instead re-lease them. See them as that nudge we need to get our butts up and going. Use those powerful emotions as fuel to propel us forward.

Remember when you were a kid? If you were acting antsy or being annoying to everyone else in the house, what were you told to do? GO OUTSIDE!!! You know…back in the old days when children actually went outside. Why did our parents and grandparents tell us to do that?

They knew the secret to managing our emotions. Check it out in today’s Baby Step.

BABY STEP

So, the next time you feel like you’re about to blow from the pressure, let off some steam outside. It doesn’t really matter what you do. I’m prone to walking quickly and muttering under my breath. There are limitless options…running, biking, kayaking, walking with your toes in the sand. Here there are no rules, no limits, no expectations.

Out in the wild, you are free to be.

Give all your intense emotions over to the one person who will love you no matter what…Mama. Mother Nature can handle it and she won’t bring it up 7,000 times in the future or hold it against you. Instead, she’ll keep giving you that calm, cool, clear, confident vibe she’s famous for.

And I speak from personal experience, that you will feel a billion times better by the time you return home. You’ll have the clarity to deal with the situation in a much more enlightened way.

Plus, you’ll keep everyone else wondering about what you did out there.
