Day 71 to Fall into Better Habits

Don’t have time to read the whole post? Jump to the Baby Step...

Are you feeling unloved? A lot of times, the holiday season triggers our brains to tell our hearts to feel unloved or sad or left out or forgotten. STOP THAT! It's all B.S.

What’s true is that you’ve got tons of happy memories so look for the treasure instead.

It can be found in countless experiences you’ve had, both massive and minuscule, that made you feel loved, uplifted, fulfilled, connected and deliriously happy. I like to call these Golden Moments.

They could be a good belly laugh with a friend. A hug when you needed one. A smile from a stranger. A kind word when you needed to hear one. A bit of wisdom from those awesome daily messages you get in your inbox (wink wink).

So, knowing we’re RICH with awesome experiences, let’s amp up that awesomeness with today’s Baby Step.

BABY STEP

In order to remind yourself just how loved you are, try this easy tip:

Look for the gold. The Golden Moments, that is.

Because when we reach back into our memories, we see how we’ve been a part of SO MANY beautiful, wonderful, miraculous, magical, happy memories. Nothing and no one can EVER take that away from us.

And, even though those experiences live in the past, they are eternal indicators of Golden Moments yet to be had. They’re showing us we can’t go back in time to keep reliving the same events. What fun would that be?

Years ago, there was an episode of Sesame Street that centered on how Elmo wanted every day to be Christmas so he could get more presents and have more fun and see how happy everyone could be. But, after a few repeats of the big day, he realized the reason Christmas time is so magical is because it’s rare. Having it happen once a year makes us realize how special it is.

The same principle holds true with our treasured memories. Trying to re-create them or re-enact them or re-live them would take away their magical quality. Who wants that? The reason we choose to lock them away in the treasure box of our hearts is to keep them lovingly preserved, not to suck all the joy from them.

With the holiday season upon us, we are ever mindful of creating wonderful experiences with those we love. Just a reminder…that’s YOUR intention, not necessarily theirs. They have a completely different outlook than you, a different mindset than you, a different heart than you. That’s okay. That’s what makes them unique. Knowing this, you can enjoy yourself without the pressure of trying to please everyone else.

Your intention is clear: enjoy as many Golden Moments as you can.

So, here is your Baby Step for today (and every day):

Remember this:

Treasure can be found in any circumstance, joy can be had on any day of the year and Golden Moments can be made at any time. YOU get to decide what you hold onto. Remember: Your heart has unlimited storage space for those joyful memories , so don't limit yourself.

Practice this:

I treasure my Golden Moments. And, they’re all Golden Moments.
