Baby Step 30 to Fall into Better Habits

I’ve been teaching Qigong, meditation and other self-empowerment techniques for ten years now, and the #1 reason people say they come to my classes is this: to find PEACE. But, there’s just one problem with that.

Peace cannot be found because it’s not lost…and neither are you.

Peace is not some mythical place with unicorns and butterflies and an endless pie buffet. It’s not something you can acquire nor is it a reward you must earn. Just like your energy, it’s already here patiently waiting for you to realize it’s been there all along.

Unless you live under a rock, then you’ve heard of the infamous, devil-may-care character known as Indiana Jones. He’s a college professor by trade and has badass adventures as a side gig. His main goal is to retrieve ancient artifacts he deems lost. But, are they really lost?

It’s true that time has passed, and sand may have covered it up, but what he’s searching for is exactly where it was left. The peace you are so desperately searching for is no different. So, with all that experience (#never-ending franchise), Indy will help us illustrate today’s words of wisdom:

Peace is just a piece.

In the movies, Indy knows that a piece is just a piece and not the treasure itself. Peace, therefore, is just a piece of a very large puzzle connected to other pieces. Each of these pieces are wonderful aspects that make up the entirety of your life. Peace is only one part of that whole. There’s also love, joy, laughter, connection, fulfillment, etc.

And, the awesome news is that this puzzle (and all of its amazing pieces) is already part of you. It IS you. The reason we think we can’t “find it” is because we keep looking outside ourselves for it. Peace, and everything else we think we’re missing, dwell within us.

Like a lever that triggers the entrance to some ancient tomb Dr. Jones is pursuing, all we need do is practice today’s Baby Step:

Release to find Peace

The tools we use to accomplish this may be a little different than our friend, Indy (#crack that whip) but they work the same way. They “trigger” our brains to remind us to keep putting the pieces together. Here are the tools I consider to be my compass – it’s what I’ve found work best for me and lots and lots of other adventurers I’ve taught along my journey:

- Meditating – seriously, is there ever a time I don’t recommend this?

- Mother Nature-ing – step outside and feel Her magical energy

- Deep breathing – this simple practice calms your nervous system and clears your mind

- Journaling – release the emotions and thoughts trying to cover up your peace

Most importantly, remind yourself of this daily:

Peace is already within me.

Did Indy ever give up? No! And, neither will you. Because we are all on a wild journey to live, laugh, love and learn how to be the best-damned adventurers we can be. Now, grab your fedora and let’s GO!
