Day 108 to Fall into Better Habits

Don’t have time to read the whole post? Jump to the Baby Step...

Life is like a video game. I know. I know. Forrest Gump says, “Life is like a box of chocolates.” But, really it’s a virtual simulation we’re all playing in our heads. So, we’d better learn the rules and we’d better…

Learn how to level up!

We must stop wondering why stuff happens to us and start learning how to avoid it instead. You’re not going to get very far in a video game if you keep repeating the moves that don’t work. Same with life.

My son (#happy birthday, ROCK!) is a hardcore gamer. He’s played every kind of game and he’s extremely good at maneuvering around any game system terrain.

We need to do the same. Let’s learn how to get around the obstacles, evade the pitfalls and dodge the stuff being hurled at us from every direction.

Today’s Baby Step will help.

BABY STEP

Props to my son, the gamer, for teaching me so much about life. He’s a great guy with a kind heart. He’s loving and loyal to his family and friends. He’s generous and friendly. I could go on, yet all those wonderful qualities are not what I’m talking about.

I learned the most about life simply by watching him play video games.

Because life is like a video game. Think about it…

  • You select and then define your character.

  • You choose where you go.

  • You find useful tools.

  • You master using said tools.

  • You meet helpful people.

  • You defeat the enemy (the demons hiding in your brain). I've got a billion tools to help with that. Read about them in past posts HERE.

  • You level up and become stronger, wiser and more skilled.

So, in honor of my son’s birthday, today’s Baby Step is this:

Play a video game.

Here are the rules:

  • It cannot be a board game.

  • It can be on any device, including your phone or PC.

  • It can be any game from Candy Crush to Madden to Call of Duty. It doesn’t matter because they all work the same way and they all have the same goal:

Get good at one level then move up to the next one.

Now, go have some fun and learn some valuable lessons about your own life along the way.
