Want to know how to be more positive? The answer lies in these two words:

Shield yourself.

Let's face it, we're surrounded by an extensive array of negatively-charged experiences (and let's not mention the people!) on a daily basis. Or at least there remains the potential for that familiar downward spiral into negativity.

So, what's a DDD-reading peep to do? Allow me to illustrate with a story…

The other day I decided to stop at my fave spot for a hot chai. Before I could leave the drive-thru, the lid separated from the cup and I was left with a lapful of stickiness that proceeded to leak everywhere. This flood of liquid was extremely thorough…it didn’t miss a single nook or cranny on my dashboard. I took a deep breath, circled around the building and got my drink replaced. Hey, I still needed my chai high.

Later that day, as I was keeping my chai vibe going, someone asked me this: “What do you have to be so happy about?”

My reply was this: “What’s the alternative?” Meaning this…

We ALL have a choice.

In any given moment, on any given day we all have the opportunity to select happiness (#love) or to select misery (#not love). ‘I could have told her the story about my mishap that morning. But that one reminder about the unpleasant event would have then led me to talk about the downfall of customer service and then the poor quality of to-go cups and then the price of the drink and finally to complain about the heat (#Florida weather).

But, I didn’t. I chose to keep that experience in the past and let it go. It happened. I couldn’t undo it so why would I willingly choose to focus on it? Instead, I chose to enjoy the rest of my afternoon and it turns out that I met some pretty amazing people later that day which led me to host an indescribably good and impromptu event that evening.

Now here’s a timeless tip for how to keep a positive vibe going when you, too are left with chai in your lap rather than your cup…

BABY STEP

When you start your day by solidifying your connection to your INNER Source then OUTER circumstances are easier to deal with.

How does one get that connection? There are a billion ways, and I can’t wait to share a ton of them with you…but that’s news for another day! So be sure to stay tuned for exciting announcements about what’s coming up! To do that, sign up HERE (if you haven’t done so already) for updates and inspirational weekday messages, like this one:

Maintaining my Divine connection is my shield against negativity.

In fact, that’s today’s Baby Step…affirmations.

Affirmations are an easy yet effective way to shield your high-vibe energy. These potent little statements have the power to alter your thinking. They have the ability to help you literally “change your mind” and set yourself free.

Even if you’ve tried them in the past and are convinced they don’t work for you, start using them again with these tweaks:

-BE WILLING. You don’t have to believe the affirmation for it to be useful to you. Kind words still carry a potent frequency and have the capacity to open your heart in an instant. Like…

“Please forgive me.”

“You matter to me.”

“I just won the lottery and I want to share it with you!”

Maybe you didn’t totally believe you’d get half their lottery winnings, but it felt damn good to hear it.

-BE CONSISTENT. You will get results with practice. So speak affirmations consistently and on a daily basis, even when you don’t want to (or if you think it’s not working).

Getting results from speaking affirmations is like getting into shape after years of being a couch potato. You might despise going to the gym and you might think you’re wasting your time walking in place on the treadmill, but little by little by little your body begins to respond to your consistent efforts. Your brain works the same way. So think of the daily affirmations I send to you as your walk on the treadmill. Baby Step by Baby Step by Baby Step will still get your noggin into shape.

Maybe you don’t love words as much as I do, but the loving intention behind them is still pure (at least the ones I send you-LOL).

And now, I leave you with this fitting quote from the immortal Captain Kirk:

“Shields up!”
